Once you have been infected with a virus the virus becomes part of your System.
You do not know what files have been edited or deleted.
An anti-virus program can get rid of most viruses but they cannot always fix your system

The only way to be sure your system is fixed after being infected is to format your computer.
If you install the anti-virus as soon as you format your computer then you should be safe.
Anti-virus programs prevent viruses but are unreliable if you install them after you have been infected.
I have to agree with Justin H. Once a virus gets into your computer it is hard to get rid of it especially if you had no anti-virus in the first place. Even qualified repairers would have a job getting rid of it. In these days of cyber criminals and identity theft it is essential that you install an anti virus program and malware program. Microsoft Essentials is worth a try. It is free for the basic version which updates itself regularly and you can scan your system either using a "quick scan" which takes about five minutes, or do a full scanavg virus review which can take anything up to an hour and a half or so depending on what files you have on your computer. It quarantines anything it finds which could corrupt your computer, giving you the option of permanently deleting it later, or you can send a report direct to Microsoft so they have a record of what was found. Again, I must stress that you would need to have this installed in the first place as it may not be able to get rid of viruses if you do not have it in the first place and just download the file.
Microsoft Essentials can be found on the Microsoft website. You can also purchase other anti virus programs such as McAfee or Norton 360 etc.
Sounds like a virus got you, and now you want to clean it up. It's too late... even if you clean the virus, the damage it did is still there, and a virus scanner cannot fix that.

Buy a new hard disk. Take out the old one, put in the new one. Install your OS, patch, configure, install virus scanner. Then attach old disk and look for your data. Copy it over, virus scan it, then format the old disk.
What others have said about it being "too late" is usually true. If you have a lot of time on your hands and access to the advice of experts, sometimes the malware can cleaned off. Usually it is completely impossible or so time consuming and specialized as to not be practical. Even pravg virus reviewofessional shops will usually have to resort to backing up your data and reinstalling Windows.

After that has been done, consider installing Microsoft Security Essentials. It is free and of high quality. You may also wish to use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. If you do switch browsers, I would recommend you install the Ad Block Plus add on.

Plug a Ethernet lead from your Router/Modem to the Computer..
Pic ->

Restart and keep pressing F8 Or F5.. Select Safe mode with networking..

When it loads Download & Run ->
That will Automatically Remove Known Malware Blocking Your Security.

Then Download, Install & Update ->

Run MalwareBytes and do A FULL System Scan.. Remove anything it Finds.

Also Run this Online Scanner And Let it Remove Any Findings..

You Can Also Download & Run CCleaner ->
Run it and do 2 scans in sections.. Cleaner & Registry.. Remove any Findings.

Hope it helps :)
In my opinion AVG Antivirus can't remove all types of viruses from a PC, so i will recommend you to use Kaspersky Antivirus....It will definitely works on your Probs....Thanxxx
That's no virus just right click personalise background I had a virus that wiped windows of my machine
Waiting to install anti-virus software until after you are infected... is too late.
