brad paisley lyricsWelcome to the Future Brad Paisley lyrics question?

"I had a friend in school, running back on a football team. They burned a cross in his front yard for asking out the homecoming queen."

I was just wondering what this meant? Why are they burning a cross? Did I miss something.. =P
they burned a cross in his yard because he was African American and the towns people didn't want a bi-racial couple in the town becbrad paisley lyricsause they weren't as accepting of African Americans back then as they are today.
He spoke of this during an interview about his performance in the White House for Barack Obama.
Umm, the Man is Martin Luther King (man with a dream)

they burned the cross because they were racist and he was probably african american. its sad, brad paisley lyricsbut i hear from my parents that even in the 80s and 90s it still happened all the time: especially in small towns.

you get this cause it says, "I thought about him today,
Everybody who's seen what he's seen,
From a woman on a bus
To a man with a dream."

the woman on the bus is rosa parks and the man is probably mlk or malcom x
